Designing custom pieces of furniture for my clients is both a privilege and a challenge. There are so many materials to choose from and sometimes, the creative possibilities can overwhelm even me!
In this particular situation, my client, a prestigious not-for-profit in midtown Manhattan, had a reception area that needed to be dressed. A long, wenge paneled wall, required something stunning and exciting, but not too edgy for their more conservative patrons and donors. Like my client, the piece needed feel anchored and solid but reflect independence and creativity as well. Storage is always helpful in a commercial setting but in this case, the aesthetics had to trump functionality.
The Answer: a custom 84″ wood and mosaic credenza, designed by me and fabricated by Ercole Home , with a palette of greens and copper mosaic glass that simply takes your breath away! This mid-century modern inspired design has invisible doors that open to accommodate storage – but is truly a work of art that both stands on its own and complements the larger space. My client is over the top with this beautiful credenza and has told me that it was definitely worth the long wait.
As an interior decorator and designer, I love creating custom pieces where function, form and beauty combine to express warmth, strength, and utility.
