Not every sofa warrants the trouble or the money. But for this Greenwich Connecticut client, reupholstering her expensive 8-way-hand-tied piece was the right way to go. This classic English sofa was the perfect place to lie down and read a book, but her arms were bulky and over-padded and the busy floral print was not her most flattering look. In this mid-century modern designed home, furnished as an English farmhouse, a stunning collection of antiques and artwork were being overwhelmed by her girth!
I knew exactly what this gal needed and selected a gorgeous woven linen and burlap stripe for the body of the sofa. A complementary large scale check was used along the bottom of the sofa and for her entire derriere! Padding was removed from both the back and the arms of the sofa so that the vertical stripes could create the illusion of long and lean.
The process took almost 4 months, but the new look was well worth the wait! Her new slender profile enabled me to begin the process of subtracting and adding other pieces to the room and showcase the homeowner’s gorgeous collection, hidden from view for way too long.
The results are extraordinary and my client is delighted. “I want to sit on my sofa all day and watch autumn unfold” is what she told me before I left. And believe me, watching winter, spring and summer from this stunning space will be just as wonderful.
